Specialties and Services:

Wilson Reading Program.

  • For students diagnosed with dyslexia in any one of the three subtypes (see above), the Wilson Reading Program is an excellent and proven intervention

  • Struggling Readers: The Wilson program has been effective with students who are struggling greatly in school and who have a number of the above characteristics. I would conduct a pre-test, speak to the child’s teacher and reading specialist, and look at his/her test results before making that decision.

Reading Intervention

  • Not every student needs the intensity of Wilson. Wilson has a faster paced program called Just Words which could be used with students who have some decoding issues but aren’t too far off from their peers.

  • Some readers need practice in different areas, such as comprehension strategies, and not an intense Orton-Gillingham style intervention. Basically, they are not reading and/or writing well, but they are not reading well. I provide tutoring services for those children as well.

Writing Intervention/ Struggling Writers

  • If your child struggles with writing in general, and not because they have a learning disability but because it is a complex skill to master, I will assist your child in all the steps of the writing process.

  • Dysgraphia related to dyslexia. Dysgraphia may come from other weak learning issues, so a professional diagnosis is helpful. However, if dyslexia is the root cause, the Wilson Program (with additional Slingerland techniques), help students work through this area.
